06 - 1/2 cup finely diced red onion

11 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
12 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

→ To Cook

13 - 2 tablespoons olive oil

→ To Serve

14 - 4 burger buns
15 - Lettuce leaves
16 - Tomato slices
17 - Sliced red onion
18 - Preferred condiments such as chipotle mayo, ketchup, or mustard

# How-To Steps:

01 - In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
02 - Add oats, breadcrumbs, egg or flaxseed egg, bell pepper, onion, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
03 - Allow the mixture to rest 5 to 10 minutes so oats and breadcrumbs absorb moisture.
04 - Divide the mixture evenly into 4 portions and shape each into a patty.
05 - Place patties on parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes. Store frozen up to 3 months in freezer bag. Thaw before cooking.
06 - Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty 5 to 7 minutes per side until golden and heated through.
07 - Toast buns if desired. Layer patties with lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments before serving.
